Now – The Travelling Photo-dieter

October 27, 2009

Photo-dieting while on my trip was going to be too much bother. But was it?

I realised that it was a perfect time to record the food choices I made, the food choices available to me, and the different places I ate. I’ll be travelling for nearly three months between leaving the UK and arriving in New Zealand. All but two of those weeks will be in the United States. We’ll betravelling from New York to Los Angeles. Then we’ll have two weeks in Rarotonga int eh Cook Islands.

So I decided to get the camera out at mealtimes again. To choose the ‘heathy choice’ where there was one, and not to worry too much when there wasn’t. I’ll photograph the food and, when I can, the place in which it was eaten or bought.

I missed photographing a couple of the meals on the first day or so as I’d not yet decided I was doing this.

A Full Week of Photo-Dieting

January 9, 2009

Well I’ve restarted the photo-dieting for 2009. I didn’t bother over Christmas because I gave myself permission to snack and nibble.

The photo above shows my best day this week. All healthy, all weighed and counted. But recording what I eat on the bad and the not-so-good days is important too. The rest of the week looked like this:

Friday 2nd Jan:
Friday 2 Jan 09
Saturday 3rd Jan:
Saturday, 3rd Jan
Sunday 4th Jan
Sunday, 4th Jan
Tuesday 6th Jan
Tuesday, 6th January
Wednesday 7th Jan
Wednesday, 7th January
Thursday 8th Jan
Thursday, 8th January
Clicking on any of the photos will take you to the original on my flickr stream which tells you a bit more about them.

Tomorrow should be okay-ish. On Saturday we are going out for lunch and on Sunday we are off to Sharm-el-Sheikh in Egypt for a week so the food should be interesting!

I’ve exercised quite a bit this week.
On Monday I swam 25 lengths.
On Tuesday I did my first ever pilates class.
On Thursday I did my first relaxercise class. I had hoped to do my second pilates class as well but the instructor was delayed.
On Friday I will be back at ‘splashy’ (aqua aerobics) and hope to swim before the class.

Next week I’ll be swimming – in the sea and a pool, I hope – and will use the hotel gym.

Food and exercise: Tuesday, 5th August

August 6, 2008

It doesn’t look like much for a whole day. I’ve brought dinner in to work because I will be going straight to the gym so need to eat first.

But I did eating some chocolate fudge cake that I brought in to work to share to celebrate my having got my degree yesterday.

I couldn’t eat this piece
celebratory cake
all in one go and had to leave some for the afternoon.

Personal Training at the Gym
When I got to the gym for my session with Estella, my personal trainer, she told me that she will not be doing PT sessions after 21st as she has started to do some other things, including chair exercises for the elderly and will be taking a movement to music qualification. She can’t fit everything in so something has to change. She is sad not to be seeing the people from the gym as often as she has been but is worried about getting stuck in a rut. The selfish part of me is sorry that she will not be training me but I am pleased for her that she is making the right decision for her future. She will be thirty at the end of the month and I guess, like all of us, a birthday with a zero on the end, might have made her stop and think about where she wants to be for the furture.

I’ve got four mmore sessions with her and she will still be taking the aqua aerobics class on Friday evenings. As that is my favourite ‘splashy’ (the name my SO and I use for aqua aerobics) and the only one he will go to, I am very pleased. She has suggested which of the other trainers she feels would best suit me.

Exercise
I did:
Treadmill: ten minutes at 4.5 for a warm up.
stretches
Recumbent bike: ten minutes keeping ti at 70 (it was hard going, I had no gym last week)

Rowing Machine: ten minutes
Cross trainer: I still find this a weird one. two minutes, followed by a minutes rest followed by another two and a half minutes.
Weights (2.5kg) bicep curls, triceps and lateral

(I think I’ve forgotten something)

Photo-diet:- Monday, 28th July 2008

July 28, 2008

Breakfast:
Simply delicious muesli from Dorset Cereals (35g) and 40g raspberries
I ate the three ‘crispy bites’ (20g) soon after as I was still hungry. 107cals!

Lunch:
Spice Sensations couscous, prawns, cucumber, spring onion and tomato

Fruit & dessert:
an orange that was sitting in the fridge, 175g Rainier cherries, 78g strawberries, 135g peach and 100g (half a tub) of Optifit probiotic dessert – peach and passionfruit.

The cous cous was half the packet (my SO got the other half). It came free with one of my foodie magazines and I knew that if I put it away in a drawer it would never get used. It’s not bad. I suspect that half a pack is more than I need.

Monday, 28th July 2008

Monday night is sausage night – we have lots of Supreme Sausages in the freezer. Tonight we had pork, venison and mushroom sausages. There are six to the pound so I cook three and we have one and a half each. One is probably enough for me and I should learn to listen to my body. I could have the other half with Tuesday’s lunch. I did mashed potato (with a little bit of carrot as there were some left in the fridge and peas because I was too hot to be bothered to cook any more intersting veg. I did do onions and mushrooms with it. The SO dished up and so it didn’t get weighed. Hey ho, we were both tired and hot. So hot that we opened a bottle of chilled rose. Sometimes you have to go with what feels right.

No packed lunch tomorrow as I am going to be in a meeting where lunch will be provided.
